Lagos State Water Regulatory Corporation (LASWARCO)
The Lagos International Water Conference (LIWAC), is adjudged as the largest gathering of Water and Sanitation Stakeholders in the last 4 years in Nigeria. It has therefore put Lagos on the global map of leading conversations targeted towards achieving the SDG goal 6.0 for clean water and Sanitation through exchange of transformational and innovative ideas towards finding lasting solutions to water supply and sanitation challenges, especially in a megacity such as Lagos.
LIWAC 2023 edition promises to present practicable lessons drawn from international experiences from Europe, Asia and Africa in the Water Sanitation and Hygiene (WASH) sector. The theme “Attaining Sanitation and Hygiene for All in a Mega City through Regulation and Innovation” is aimed at speaking to the true context of sanitation and hygiene services in Lagos State, with a view to achieving sustainable sanitation and hygiene services through effective regulation. This will be a great opportunity to attract the necessary investment to the sector through strengthening of its key fundamental elements: the regulatory environment, the governance structure, the financing strategy, technical operations and commercial performance of service providers. It promises to be another exciting moment in the city of Lagos.
Today, the conference has attracted sector practitioners to the state and the WASH sector of Lagos state is gradually assuming it’s place of relevance and influence. As a result of this, development Partners such as WaterAid, and USAID have established Memorandum of understanding (MOU) with Lagos State, with a view to improving WASH services delivery in Lagos State. It is important to mention that the Yr2022 World Toilet Summit estimates about $26Million is locked in the sanitation economy of Nigeria with a huge percentage vested in Lagos State.
It promises to be an exciting experience.
Aim of the Conference
To facilitate dialogue and sharing of knowledge on improving access to safely managed sanitation and hygiene using robust regulatory mechanisms towards the achievement of the SDG 6 in Lagos state and environs.
Theme: Accelerating sanitation and hygiene for all in Lagos Megacity through regulation and innovation.
The conference will be organized and hosted by the Lagos State Government through the Lagos State Water Regulatory Commission (LASWARCO).
